QUANTUM PIXEL
BRIGHTON FESTIVAL OF ART

The exhibition include video, photograph, tests and prototypes born by the quantum question.  All the exhibition is less than 500 KBIt’s homage to the low res.

In front of the abundance and the abuse of the photography production, in front of the self celebration in the media, in front of the photographic objectification of the reality, I have not invented anything, nothing more than an idea, the smallest and simplest possible. I reduced the resolution of a portrait of myself into a pixel, and I get the black_pixel_1x1.jpg, the nullity of forms, the zero of form of photography, the new photography – the non-objective creation. It’s the first step of the re-appropriation of the pixel lexical language, the basic alphabet that is in front of our everyday eyes. Even this idea is not new, one hundred year after the Malevitch’s Black Square we probably need a black square in photography. The black pixel is not craft made as the Malevitch’s square, it’s more zero. It’s an image with the less information and resolution possible, the smallest photo ever, the image that censures the subject to be pure form, pure colour and pure information.

Which is the First Photo with Pixels? ☐ Why was the Pixel invented? ☐ ☐ Can I generate a Pixel? ☐ ☐ ☐ If the quality of a mosaic is still good after blowing it up, is it possible to manually arrange the order of the Pixels like the tesserae of a mosaic? ☐ Can I explode the mesh that limits the Pixels in a photo? ☐ ☐ What is between two Pixels? ☐ ☐ ☐ Is it possible to think about an Anti-matter of a Pixel? ☐ Is a Pixel square? ☐ ☐ Can a Pixel be a dot? ☐ ☐ ☐ Can a Pixel be hexagonal? ☐ How many shapes can a Pixel have? ☐ ☐ How many colours can a Pixel have? ☐ ☐ ☐ Is there anything behind a Pixel? ☐ Why is the background of a failed uploaded photo grey? ☐ ☐ Why is corruption magenta? ☐ ☐ ☐ Does a Pixel die? ☐ Can I kill a Pixel? ☐ ☐ Is it possible to resuscitate a Pixel? ☐ ☐ ☐ Does a Pixel disappear? ☐ Does a Pixel exist in real life? ☐ ☐ Can I print a Pixel? ☐ ☐ ☐ How big can I print a Pixel? ☐ In art, was there a predecessor of a Pixel before it existed? ☐ ☐ Are Pixels visible in Nature? ☐ ☐ ☐ Did Photography use a precursor of the Pixel before the arrival of the screen? ☐ Do the coloured Pixels work as in a painting? ☐ ☐ Can I resume the Contemporary History of Art using Pixels from low res images? ☐ ☐ ☐ What is a Sub-Pixel? ☐ Can a Pixel be hot? ☐ ☐ ☐ How looks like an imperfect Pixel?

Disturbing IKB Pixel
IKB means International Klein Blue - it’s a pure color of ultramarine patented by Yves Klein, that takes origin from the ultramarine - lapis lazuli - one of the most important color in art that was used pure, it was considered a blasphemy to mix it with others. This is why I chose, or better I hunted it on a low res from Mimmo Rotella poster of Marilyn. Than I’ve “stressed it” working in on indesign, doing a screenshot and reducing again and adapting to indd than finally stressed for the last time. I obtained what is called a disturb of the pixel. I find that this process made it more 3d and optically interesting. Printed huge, the disturb became an aura. This is my very first photo printed for an exhibition “made by myself” even if I’ve stolen the original. It’s incredible the distance from how they look on the screen / jpg in 13Kb and how they look when they are print …I made crazy the printer for hours to have that :)Is this blue small square you see there

The black pixel is my self-portrait reduced to zero.
